Sugar Research Australia Limited (SRA), Australia’s leading Sugar Industry Research Organisation, is seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to join its board.
SRA is an industry-owned company which invests in and manages a portfolio of research, development and extension projects that drive productivity, profitability, and sustainability for the Australian sugarcane industry.
SRA’s revenue is obtained primarily through the statutory sugarcane levy and Commonwealth Government matching funding for eligible research and development (R&D) activities.
SRA is governed by a skills-based board of eight directors, a majority of whom must be independent. The role of the board includes to approve strategic and operating plans, review the company’s performance against plans, and seek advice and recommendations from the SRA Research Funding Panel for contestable investment of the SRA Research Funding Pool.
The board is required to have a balance of skills across a number of key selection criteria. For the two current vacancies, the Director Selection Committee is specifically seeking directors with an innovative and expansive mindset and expertise and knowledge in one or more of the following:
- Extensive experience in sugar cane farming. Alternate cropping and agri experience would also be well regarded.
- National and international Research and Development, technology, technology transfer, commercialisation, and adoption.
- Finance, accounting and audit at board level (CPA/CA qualifications highly regarded).
- Strategic information technology to advise at board level on technology adoption and innovation.
Demonstrated capacity to contribute at board level and prior experience as an independent non-executive director are highly desirable. The successful candidate should be a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Course (or equivalent).
SRA actively seeks diversity and gender equality in the recruitment of board directors.
Directors are remunerated by way of a fixed annual fee. Reasonable board-related expenses are met by the company. Directors will be appointed for a maximum term of up to three years.
